The Washington Post (9/18, Layton) reports that the House Ways And Means Committee passed a measure on Thursday that would allow teachers “who spend their own money on classroom supplies” to be eligible “for a permanent tax credit of up to $250 annually for unreimbursed expenses.” The credit would be adjusted for inflation, and could “also be applied to the cost of professional development.” A similar provision, though not indexed for inflation, expired in January. The bill passed “without a single Democratic vote.”
