In an interview with Education Week (9/12, Brenneman), Kevin Jennings, the founder of the Gay, Lesbian, & Straight Education Network, talked about how being an LGBT educator has changed over the past two decades. Jennings says that LGBT teachers are definitely more likely to be accepted by their peers and communities than they were when he started teaching, but there is still much work to be done.
