Iowa Congressman Discusses Rural Students Legislation.


The Quad-City (IA) Times (10/15, Fletcher-Frye) reports US Rep. Dave Loebsack (D-IA) visited the Columbus Community School District on Tuesday to discuss his legislation for Iowa’s rural schools with local educators. The congressman has been touring the state hosting a series of roundtables called “Expanding Opportunities for Rural Students” to raise awareness of his legislation, the Restructuring Underutilized Resources for Advancing Learning (RURAL) Act. The legislation consists of “four key policy components to increase the capacity of rural schools to provide a high quality education.” Loebsack explained, “We have to do what we can to make” Congress “understand that poverty isn’t just an urban problem,”
