The Washington Post (10/15, St. George) reports that Prince George’s County schools have expanded an initiative to “integrate the arts into teaching and learning” into 41 schools. Participants say they “use art in many forms across the curriculum as a way to make content more meaningful and deepen student learning.” Sandra Ruppert, director of the Arts Education Partnership, cited studies showing that “employing the arts in academic discussions is associated with improvement in test scores in math and English.” She adds that the arts “engage kids in school, motivate them to learn, develop critical thinking, equip them to be creative.”
