Philadelphia Teachers Will Demonstrate All They Do For Free By Sticking To Their Contracts For One Week.

The Philly (PA) (10/8, Graham) reports a group of Philadelphia teachers will be engaging in “work-to-rule actions” where they will only do what is required of them by their contracts to demonstrate all that they do for their students and schools without compensation. For a week, the participating teachers will not buy any supplies not provided by the schools, supervise playgrounds before school, tutor students during their lunch breaks, wait with students whose parents are late to pick them up, or do anything else that is not officially required by their contract. Many Philadelphia teachers are upset by the recent actions of Superintendent William R. Hite Jr. who has closed down public schools and opened up more charter schools in the city.
