Politico Analysis: Obama, Teachers Unions At Odds.


In an analysis piece, Politico (10/3, Grunwald) explored rifts between the Administration and teachers unions, noting that education is one area “where Obama has veered farthest from his liberal base.” According to Politico, acting Education Secretary John B. King “could help to repair the Obama administration’s fractured relationship with reliably Democratic teachers unions.” However, Politico said a continuation of Administration policies focused more on aiming “for higher standards, for charter schools, for standardized testing,” rather than healing problems with “roots outside of the school,” is more likely.
