Mississippi Effort To Keep Teachers With Affordable Housing Not Successful.


Education Week (10/2, Mader) reports Mississippi passed the Critical Teacher Shortage Act in 1998 allowing rural school districts to build affordable housing to try to attract teachers. The effort has largely failed to attract or retain teachers, but the idea has been adopted in other states where it has met more success.
