Florida Teen Facing Expulsion, Felony Charges After "Science" Explosion

USA Today (5/2, Winter) reports on the controversy surrounding a Florida student who placed volatile household products in a plastic water bottle in "what she called 'a science fair experiment'" on school property before classes. The resultant explosion caused a loud report and some smoke. The student was expelled and is facing felony charges, and her case is stirring debate over "whether a teen deserved harsh punishment for an ad hoc experiment that caused a small chemical explosion but no harm, or whether the school district and law enforcement authorities had overreacted."
