The Boston Globe (3/9, Rosenberg) reports on Massachusetts' "innovation schools" which "are allowed to set their own curriculum, schedule, and calendar, and choose their own staff." Supported by Governor Deval Patrick, "the schools are still funded by their home districts," but "policies are set by a governing board." So far, "there are 18 innovation schools in the state." They are seen as another alternative like charter schools to pursue improvement strategies.
