Opinion: Technology will not kill book publishing

In an article posted on USA Today online, Harold McGraw III and Philip Ruppel discuss why the future of publishing is not something to worry about.

These discussions intensified when Amazon announced that its digital book sales topped its hardcover book sales for the first time ever. Then, in August, with questions circulating about the future of weekly magazines, The Washington Post Co. sold Newsweek. More recently, The Washington Post announced it was restructuring to move more toward digital media.

These headlines might indicate that the publishing world is changing, but this does not mean it is washed up, as many parts of the industry are flourishing in the digital age, say the authors. The fact that e-book sales are up 200 percent is a new beginning for the publishing industry. Read the full article and see the five common myths that McGraw and Ruppel identify about publishing.
