Bush Institute launches initiative to support school principals

The George W. Bush Institute is focusing its first initiative on improving the performance of school principals, former first lady Barbara Bush has announced. The institute's Alliance to Reform Education Leadership (AREL) will be made up of school districts, universities, and foundations that have educational programs for school leaders. Organizations in six cities have already committed to participating.

James K. Glassman, executive director of the institute, said that they hope to "change the environment in which teachers operate and therefore help teachers succeed by helping their leaders succeed." The goal is to certify at least half of the nation's public school principals by the year 2020. Read the full Associated Press article by Jamie Stengle from The Huffington Post
