Rural Districts Turn To Teacher Mentoring Programs For Professional Development

An article in T.H.E. Journal (10/5, Beesley) describes at length the economic and logistical challenges facing rural schools, noting that over "half of all public school districts and one -third of all public schools are in rural communities." The piece notes that rural schools often offer limited access to advanced courses, and have lower rates of post-secondary education. Moreover, rural districts often lack professional development services for teachers. The piece continues to explore the use of teacher mentoring programs to offset this lack.
