In a piece for Education Week (10/13), Al Moore, founder and executive director of Acelin Learning Solutions Inc., writes about the difficulty educators face in selecting an interventional reading program for students with "a reading problem," and offers a number of recommendations to help teachers "select a good reading intervention and get struggling readers started on the path to reading success." These include precisely defining what the "reading problem" the student is facing is, being aware of indicators that indicate there may be a reading problem, and utilizing "cognition exercises" in any intervention.
