KHTS-AM San Diego (CA) (10/7, Worden) reports that leaders of the Fernandeño-Tataviam Band of Mission Indians have announced a $1 million ED grant "to promote academic achievement and cultural awareness among American Indian high school students throughout Los Angeles County." The grant will go to a program which is "designed to improve students' academic achievement, reaffirm their cultural identity, prepare them to enter college and" promote new tribal leadership.
