Are teachers unions losing influence?

"Teachers unions have a well-deserved reputation for exercising political clout," writes Mitchell Landsberg in the November 7 edition of the Los Angeles Times. But now a nationwide school reform movement is colliding with unions on three key ideas that labor has long resisted: expansion of charter schools, merit pay for teachers, and the use of student test scores in teacher evaluations.
