Oregon Facing Shortage Of Bilingual Teachers For English Language Learners And Immersion Programs.

The AP (10/20, Spegman) reports Oregon is facing a shortage of bilingual teachers as it increases dual language education programs, including immersion programs and those designed to help English language learners by gradually changing instruction from their native language to English. According to the ED, Oregon has had a shortage of bilingual teachers for almost a decade. Spanish is the second language most in demand, but Oregon also needs teachers fluent in Japanese, Mandarin, Russian, and Vietnamese.
