The Tucson (AZ) Sentinel (1/11, Smith) reports Tucson Unified School District's "Governing Board eliminated its ethnic studies program Tuesday night in a 4 -1 vote following impassioned pleas from program supporters." However, Board President Mark Stegeman said they were "'backed into a corner' by the state Legislature," which passed a law "essentially banning the program." Meanwhile, Judge A. Wallace Tashima, of the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals, didn't grant an injunction agins the law but allowed a lawsuit challenging it to go forward.
