Some Districts Experimenting With Four-Day School Weeks

NBC Nightly News (8/31, story 12, 2:50, Williams) reported, "In our 'Education Nation' report tonight, this idea of a four-day school week. On the face of it, it makes you wonder how this could be better for our kids. ... But it's already a reality in some places, four-day school weeks are now in effect in several states." NBC (Cowan) reported, "The number of hours in class won't change, just four longer days. Kids may have Fridays off, but teachers still have to come in to plan." Cowan added, "Experts...were split on the issue, saying there's not enough research yet on the shorter week to see if it helps or harms."
