Teachers Speak Out Against Overreliance On Standardized Testing

Teacher Anthony Cody writes at the Washington Post (6/20) "Answer Sheet" blog that he wrote an open letter to President Obama and Education Secretary Arne Duncan over a year ago and collected and forwarded "a package of 107 letters" from teachers expressing their views on education reform. "Sadly, there has been no change in education policies, and the administration seems more determined than ever to enforce policies that attach ever higher stakes to standardized test scores." Cody writes that Obama has recently expressed an opposition to excessive testing, but adds that his "words did not correspond with his policies."
