ACLU Targeting Single-Sex Education Programs

Reuters (5/23) reports that the American Civil Liberties Union is threatening to sue several districts across the country with same-sex education classes, arguing that they are illegal and perpetuate stereotypes. The piece notes that a 2006 ED ruling helped to facilitate the expansion of the practice into as many as 300 schools across the country, and quotes ACLU attorney Galen Sherwin saying, "Many of the programs rely on faulty theories about the supposed developmental differences between boys' and girls' brains that amount to nothing more than sex stereotypes."
